In 2004 our business grew 90%. In 2005 it grew another 72%. In 2006 we’re growing at an annual rate of 30%. Why do you care?

Here’s the main reason we’re growing so fast; Our advertising is producing 49% of our retail business and 70% of our profits!

Hard numbers? Last month I ran 2 direct mail ads and a classified ad.

The direct mail ads cost me $350 and $175. The $350 ad brought in a little over $8,000 and the $175 ad brought in $4,378. The classified ad cost me $68 for the month and produced $6,098.

A little over half of that was profits. Our ads have produced as much as $44,000 in sales with an advertising cost of less than $600. These are just the sales from our ads. Our total business is much higher.

Can I promise you the same results? No, and I won’t. But my town is not unique and neither are my customers. Remember, my town only has 17,000 people. In a larger town you may do better.

I recently read that 98% of all advertising fails to pay for itself. I believe it. Does that mean that only one-in-fifty of your ads will generate a profit? No. My experience tells me that 98% of the businesses running ads never generate a profit, and 2% consistently run profitable ads. How do I know about the top 2%? I’m one of them. And you can be too.
